Simu Liu is a Chinese-Canadian actor, stuntman, and writer born in Harbin, China. He spent five years in Harbin being raised by his grandparents while his parents were studying at university in Canada when they decided to bring him over. Liu originally did not have plans to become an actor, as he originally graduated with an Honours Business Administration (HBA) degree from the University of Western Ontario in 2011 and worked as an accountant. Unfortunately, his accounting career was short-lived, as he was fired. After being fired from his accounting job, he decided to take the opportunity to change his career and pursue acting. However, it would take a while for his acting career to take off. As a result, he took on jobs as a stock photo model and superhero for kids' birthday parties. At the same time, he would star in a variety of small roles, before getting his big break in 2016, starring as Jung Kim in the Canadian sitcom Kim's Convenience. Thanks to his role on the show, he was able to land a role as Shang-Chi - Marvel's first Asian superhero - and was announced as the titular character at ComiCon in 2019.
